Released in August 2021, Evolving Skies has become the defining set of the Sword & Shield era. It packed the hobby's most beloved Pokémon — the Eeveelutions and Rayquaza — into the alternate art style collectors chase hardest, with pull rates stingy enough that a single top card can be worth more than a sealed booster box.

Moonbreon: The King of Modern Pokémon
The Umbreon VMAX Alternate Art (215/203) — universally known as "Moonbreon" — is the most expensive English card of the modern era. The night-carnival artwork, Umbreon's massive fanbase, and a pull rate of roughly one per booster case created a perfect storm. It crossed $1,000 raw at its 2024 peak, cooled off, and has settled into a $650–900 range through 2026 — still several times the price of any Scarlet & Violet era card.
Gem copies are genuinely hard: the card's dark borders show whitening easily, so PSA 10s carry a huge premium at $1,400–1,900. The Rest of the Eeveelution Alt Arts
Evolving Skies gave V or VMAX alternate arts to four Eeveelutions — Umbreon, Sylveon, Glaceon, and Leafeon — and the price ladder tracks each Pokémon's popularity:
- Sylveon VMAX Alt Art (212/203) — $120–180. The pastel "candy town" art is a fan favorite; see our Sylveon price guide.
- Glaceon VMAX Alt Art (209/203) — $70–110. Steady climber since the set went out of print.
- Leafeon VMAX Alt Art (205/203) — $60–95. The cheapest VMAX alt in the set, and often called its best value buy.
The V alt arts of the same Pokémon run cheaper — roughly $40–80 each in near mint — but have appreciated at a similar rate.
Rayquaza and the Dragon Alt Arts
Evolving Skies also marked the return of Dragon types to the Sword & Shield era, and its Rayquaza cards are second only to Moonbreon. The Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art (218/203) — Rayquaza soaring through a lightning storm — holds at $450–600 raw, and the Rayquaza V Alt Art (194/203) at $150–220. Watch Out: Fakes and Resealed Packs
High prices attract counterfeiters. Fake Moonbreons are common on marketplace sites, and loose Evolving Skies packs are frequently resealed after the hits are pulled.
